Low discusses the proofs for "A bibliography of printing" which do not need any changes; thanks Wyman for typographical literature, particularly Hessel's "Gutenberg," and a literary dispute between Hessels and Van der Linde regarding the contributions of Coster and Gutenberg to printing.

Johannes Gutenberg was born in Mainz, Germany sometime between 1394 and 1404. He is best known for the invention of the moveable type printing press which ushered in the modern period of human history. Theodore Low De Vinne (1828-1914) was apprenticed to the printer's trade in Newburgh, N.Y. but came to New York City in 1848, where he eventually became a partner in the shop of Francis Hart. On the death of the latter in 1877, De Vinne became possessed of the business eventually known as the De Vinne Press.
